Musical Moment: "Closer to You" by Dennis Quaid, featuring Bonnie Raitt
In "The Big Easy" Dennis Quaid's character tries to make love to Ellen Barkin's character while this song is playing in the background. A treasure.
I hadn’t seen “The Big Easy” since it came out in 1986, so when I saw it on Amazon Prime Video I thought it would make a nice film to watch on an evening when I was too tired to do anything else.
It somehow escaped my attention all these years that Dennis Quaid was a songwriter in addition to being an actor, but when “Closer to You” came on the soundtrack while the Quaid character was trying to make love for the first time with the Ellen Barkin character, I immediately Googled the lyrics and soon all was revealed.
Here is a great version with Bonnie Raitt and some other musicians whose identities I should know but don’t (and not indicated on this YouTube clip.) If anyone does know who they are please tell us in the comments below.
If you’re wondering why I have started posting music clips in between posts about Gaza and other horrible events in the world, the answer is easy: It’s just too painful otherwise. Isn’t for you, too?
