Poetry corner: Cancel my subscription!

"Words for the Wise" does not get many unsubscribe requests--just the opposite--but they do happen occasionally. Here are my unrepentant thoughts when they do.

CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION!

For telling me what I don’t want known

For showing me what I don’t want shown

For making me hear the victims groan

Cancel my subscription.

For making me think new kinds of thoughts

For tying my worldview up in knots

For trying to turn all my naughts to oughts

Cancel my subscription.

For saying I voted for the wrong guy

Though he promised me the moon and sky

For not even giving him time to try

Cancel my subscription.

I’ll find other publications that do

Their best to confirm what I always knew

And assure me all my opinions are true 

So cancel my subscription.
